Franklin County Guardian ad Litem Reviews 2026 - Columbus, Ohio

Official Franklin County, 2026 Guardian Ad Litem (GAL/JAL) list: HERE

Finding the right GAL is one of the most important choices in a contentions divorce. Once appointed, transparency and accountability are non-existent for these court-appointed attornies. In our overburdened courts, Judges often will simply default to a GAL's opinion, while these GALs enjoy full immunity. This has created an unaccountability loophole the courts love to abuse with no checks or balances. Like many, if you or your family has been mistreadted by a court-appointed GAL your only recourse is to file a grievance with the Ohio Supreme Court and the Ohio State Bar, consider a Legal Malpractice claim or an Abuse of Process suit.

I was shocked by Ms. Snyder's conduct during my custody case. She spent less than 20 minutes with my children before making life-altering recommendations. When my children tried to tell her about problems at their mother's house, she cut them off and changed the subject. Later, I found out she had previously worked cases with my ex's attorney multiple times. Her recommendations exactly matched what my ex requested, despite evidence showing I had been the more involved parent. The judge followed her recommendations without question, and now I only see my children every other weekend. Source: Ohio Father's Rights Forum

Meredith Snyder was appointed GAL for my child custody case. She made recommendations without ever visiting my home or observing my interactions with my children. When I provided documented evidence of my ex's neglect, she dismissed it as 'parental conflict.' Her report to the court contained several factual errors, but when I tried to address them, she refused to correct her report. I was told by my attorney that she has close relationships with several family law attorneys in the area which creates a conflict of interest. The outcome of my case was devastating for my children. As someone who has worked in the Franklin County family court system for over 15 years, I've witnessed Ms. Snyder's problematic patterns firsthand. She frequently makes recommendations that favor whichever parent has the more expensive attorney. She has been observed having lunch with certain attorneys before making recommendations that favor their clients. This type of behavior undermines public trust in the GAL system and hurts children. Courts should implement better oversight of GALs to prevent these conflicts of interest. Source: Professional Testimony
